Careem and Uber in Pakistan - Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad

Soon after launching their services in Pakistan, transport services giants Careem and Uber,  received a public response surpassing initial expectations. They have become favorite traveling services for people of Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.
In a country where public transport for women is considered unsafe, Careem and Uber are popular specially with women, because for them, there is no other choice.
In Careem’s app, you have the option to scroll to the bottom and type in your exact location. Once you’ve specified your destination, the app tells you how much the trip would cost. After request confirmation, you get a sms that the car is on its way and then another sms when the driver is waiting outside. You also get sent the driver’s mobile number. Uber’s app  works differently,  you see a map of your location where you have to pinpoint where you want to be picked up from. The app doesn’t ask you for a drop-off location and lets you request for the car. However, Uber app’s ability to show where your driver is at any point of time is definitely a plus point for the car service.
Uber and Careem allows its Pakistan customers to pay in cash, rather than credit cards. Promo codes with generous discounts are also offered to customers.
Despite continually adding new cars to the fleet, both companies are tackling complaints of car shortage by customers with ever increasing demand. Social media pages of Careem and Uber have been filled with complaints from customers who received a "no car is available" message. Careem also plans to launch rickshaws in its fleet soon.
From driver's view, both services offer decent income in Pakistan's perspective. While average per month income might not be high, there are drivers who make over Rs. 100,000 a month by just driving cars on the roads of Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad.
